Cake Layers Dun Briste
Description
Dun Briste is gaelic for 'Broken Fort' and Dun Briste aka Downpatrick Head is located in Knockaun Co Mayo Ireland. This sea stack was once connected by an arch to the mainland but it was eroded and it now stands as a solidarity sentinel away from the mainland. Standing at roughly 45m (150ft) this impressive sight is a must sea along the Wild Atlantic Way. Viewed from this angle the tabular limestone rocks that comprise the stack are clearly visible. This makes the stack look like layers of a chocolate cake. Taken on a blustery day with gail force winds this image is taken lower and further back then other images of this attraction. This is because the tripod was shaking in the wind and it was nearly impossible to stand close to the edge. Therefore the grass foreground gives a nice frame to the raging sea surrounding the stack. A beautiful image taken during trying conditions. The black and white monochrome of this image compliment the stormy Atlantic and the crumbling layers of the 'cake'/sea stack.
